College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources: Division of Food Systems & Bioenginnering
Assistant Professor Food & Hospitality Systems (070288)
Position Description:
We are seeking three faculty members for our newly-established Food and Hospitality Systems (FHS) program. This new venture capitalizes on the unique strengths we have in both Food Science (FS) and Hotel & Restaurant Management (HRM), a combination rarely found in Colleges of Agriculture. In addition to the conventional training in food science or hospitality management, our curricula will provide students with the knowledge and tools to be innovative and entrepreneurial. Our goal is to prepare graduates that have a good understanding of the food or hospitality industry, or a science background, to recognize innovations of commercial potential and further develop them, and more importantly, the abilities to put innovative ideas into industrial applications either through business startups or in established companies.
Responsibilities/Duties:
These are tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level with a split instruction/research appointment. A successful candidate is expected to establish a strong, extramurally-funded research program. Research should address fundamental issues in the food and hospitality industries. Entrepreneurship based on new discoveries and technological innovations is a desired component of the research. These faculty members will develop and instruct graduate- and undergraduate-level courses in the FS and/or HRM programs. The incumbents will serve on committees and be active in professional organizations at local and national levels.
Qualifications:
An earned doctorate in Food Science, Hotel & Restaurant Management or related fields. A successful applicant must possess a strong background in one or more areas related to food and hospitality systems. Excellent abilities to teach are essential. Expertise and/or experiences in entrepreneurship education and research are strongly desirable.
Application Procedure:
Applicants should send: letter of application, curriculum vita, transcripts, statement of research focus, teaching philosophy, names and addresses of three professional references, and a copy of a recent published article to:
