Position Description:
The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Division of Plant Sciences seeks a Research Associate to conduct field experiements to evaluate crop production systems for conserving water, soil, and plant nutrients.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include irrigating crops with flood and sprinkler irrigation, developing strategies for controlling problem weeds and other pests in field crops grown in Southeast Missouri, and directing part time employees in the collecting and processing of soil and tissue samples. Person will be responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of the resulting data submitted to the primary investigators and assist graduate students in performing experiments.
Qualifications:
Person must have a M.S. degree in Plant Science with with significant experience in conducting and directing crop production field research and knowledge of rice culture and pest control practices, and be able to implement tests from experimental protocols and field plans with minimum supervision. Experience operating farm equipment for planting, cultivation, irrigation, chemical application, and harvesting is required. Practical knowledge of mechanical and agronomic concepts for maintaining and improving farm and greenhouse equipment. Provide team leadership and work cooperatively with other scientists. Knowledge of United States cropping production systems. Good communication skills.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.
