Teaching Assistant Professor (080060)
Position:
The Personal Financial Planning Department is accepting applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor of Personal Financial Planning to be the Director of the University of Missouri Office for Financial Success and Director of the Center for Economic Education. This is a non tenure track, nine month appointment, with summer funding possible.
Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will:
- Provide leadership to the Office for Financial Success, our undergraduate financial counseling center.
- Provide leadership to MU's Center for Economic Education, particularly with respect to improving personal finance and economics curriculums in Missouri schools.
- Teach undergraduate courses relating to financial counseling, including engaging students in the counseling process.
- Advise and mentor students.
- Publish the Financial Tip of the Week, our research-based financial management educational blog, particular emphasis should be placed on information relevant to young adults.
- Seek and maintain external funding to support the position.
- Work with industry partners to garner support for the department's Office for Financial Success and the Center for Economic Education.
- Serve on department, college, and university committees.
Qualifications:
- Earned Master's or Doctorate in Consumer/Family Economics, Economics, Finance or related field.
- Experience running a financial counseling center. Experience working with college students a plus. Teaching effectiveness in the areas of financial counseling and personal finance.
- CFP, or comparable, certificate desired or willingness to obtain the CFP designation within 4 years of hire.
- Website design and maintenance capabilities strongly desired.
- Active professional membership in relevant organizations.
- Experience in financial counseling, planning and curriculum development desired.
- CFP®, AFC, or equivalent credential required to oversee and conduct bankruptcy financial counseling.
Salary and Rank:
Commensurate with qualifications. Competitive with national Human Sciences financial planning programs.

Department:
The Personal Financial Planning program offers a B.S.HES in Personal Financial Planning (CFP® Board registered), Personal Financial Management Services, and a degree program in e-Consumer Studies; M.S. in Personal Financial Planning with options in Personal Financial Planning and Consumer and Family Economics; and a Ph.D. in Human Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Consumer and Family Economics. Besides our undergraduate Personal Financial Planning degree program, our other CFP® Board registered degree programs include cooperative undergraduate programs with Agricultural Economics and Finance, a post-baccalaureate Financial Planning certificate program; a Personal Financial Planning Applied Master's degree, and a joint MS/JD degree. We are also part of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GP-IDEA), that offers a graduate certificate and master's degree in Personal Financial Planning.
Current undergraduate and graduate student enrollment is approximately 190 and 20, respectively. Current members of the faculty include 5 tenured/tenure-track resident professors, one Teaching Assistant Professor, and 3 non-regular extension professionals.
College:
The College of Human Environmental Sciences is comprised of five departments: Personal Financial Planning, Architectural Studies, Human Nutrition and Foods, Human Development and Family Studies, Textiles and Apparel Management, and the School of Social Work.
Current college undergraduate and graduate enrollment is approximately 1,200 and 350, respectively.
