Position:
The University of Missouri at Columbia (MU) seeks a dynamic and visionary leader for the position of Dean of the Sinclair School of Nursing. The Dean reports directly to the Provost and serves the University in multiple roles. Through the campus-wide Council of Deans, the Dean actively contributes to decisions affecting the University at large as well as the School of Nursing.
School of Nursing:
MU, part of the four-campus University of Missouri System, is one of the most comprehensive universities in the United States. It is an AAU, Doctoral/Research Extensive, and Land-Grant institution with over 28,000 students. MU is located in Columbia, Missouri, one of America’s most livable cities. The Sinclair School of Nursing provides a rich and rewarding learning environment for students. Its Master's program has the highest ranking in the State of Missouri, the MU Sinclair School of Nursing is among the top 50 schools of nursing in the nation, and ranked 18th in the nation in National Institutes of Health funding for nursing schools. Multidisciplinary projects include the Interdisciplinary Center on Aging and Tiger Place. Initiated as a multidisciplinary service, education and research project at the MU Sinclair School of Nursing, Tiger Place is a model of (gerontological/geriatric) education, research, care delivery and environmental design for the 21st century. It is also a center for students, scholars, policy makers and entrepreneurs to research the new "Aging-in-Place" model in eldercare. The School has a Nursing Outreach unit and a strong distance education program. The School's environment is an academic health center campus with the Schools of Nursing, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine/Biomedical Sciences, and Health Professions and the University Hospital and Clinics. Scholarly nursing research is a central focus for the value it brings to excellence in teaching and the benefits it delivers to the health of society.
Qualifications:
This innovative and experienced nurse/teacher/scholar/administrator must have a fundamental understanding of, and commitment to, academic excellence and collaboration to meet the changing societal needs in education in the United States and around the globe. Candidates must have a strong record of accomplishment in scholarly research, teaching, and service appropriate to academic appointment as full professor. In addition, candidates should have appropriate administrative experience, preferably in a research university; be a skilled communicator; have a track record of securing or assisting others in securing extramural funds, both public and private, for research, teaching, and faculty support; and be a compelling voice for issues in the School. MU is currently in a $1 billion development campaign. The Dean will be expected to devote a substantial amount of his/her time to development activities. S/he should have the highest standards and personal integrity and be committed to the work of stimulating innovative and interdisciplinary programs.
